There is a dirt road in Alaska that is home to numerous people whose desire to live “off the grid” led them there. One man, in particular, will now have an opportunity to present a criminal defense after police arrested him in response to a call they recently received from the man’s neighbor, saying he was driving up and down his driveway, firing gunshots and worrying the neighbors. Police arrived at the man’s trailer, then reportedly obtained a warrant to search the premises, after which they took the man into custody.
The man is now facing felony and misdemeanor criminal charges, one of which is “reckless endangerment.” He posted his thoughts about the situation on social media, and his version of the story is quite different from the report investigators have made. The man says he was not responsible for the bullet casings and holes police say they found in his vehicle and trailer, as well as casings allegedly strewn along the driveway.
Defendant told police that he has poachers on his property
The man in question says he has an ongoing problem with poachers who have fired guns on his property, trying to shoot animals. On his Facebook page, the man stated that he was out for a jog when Alaska police officers stopped him, took him into custody and placed him behind bars. Police say they first met the man at his trailer when he approached their patrol cars. They claim he had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol.
All evidence will now be presented in court
With two versions of the same story that vastly differ from each other, a criminal court judge will determine whether the Alaska resident in this case committed a crime. Anyone facing similar legal problems may wish to speak with an experienced Alaska criminal law attorney before heading to court. Strong legal support is typically the best way to ensure the most positive outcome possible when facing charges for firearms violations or other crimes.
